Explore gel plate printing

A technique that transformed art making!

Gel plate printing has transformed the process of art making for many by allowing accessible printmaking without the need for a traditional press. Gel plates can be used to create monoprints and complex layers in a myriad of ways.

Since 2024 I’ve used gel plate printing for teaching on multiple art retreats around the world and I am a fan! It's a wonderful method to explore different ways to play with colour, texture and experiment with forms and processes for making artworks.

How is my teaching different?

To help students to really understand materials and techniques I focus on simplifying complex processes by breaking them down step by step. You will find new ways to create in your own unique way by using my Creative Leap Methodā„¢ for drawing and mark making.

Colour is my jam

Colour is a very powerful element in art and design. By using specific colour palettes for each module, and exploring ways to mix tints and tones, and combining semi-translucent layers with opaque colours, you will increase your colour confidence.

How is the course presented

The course consist of three week long modules, each with a specific approach to create with the gel plate as central component in the course.

Alongside the gel press and acrylic paint we will also use different drawing materials to create in new and exciting ways. The four prerecorded and edited lessons shared daily (Mo-Th) will show the processes and elements that will culminate in a comprehensive project at the end of the week’s module.

Who is this course suitable for?

Whether you are a novice with little experience or a seasoned artist, you will find value in this course packed with new ideas. I pride myself on my teaching methods, the aim is always to simplify techniques and processes before building them out in ways to make art where creativity and individuality are championed.

How is the course delivered?

All lessons are delivered as prerecorded, edited videos with subtitles (English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese) and written instructions for each project. Because this is a ā€˜live' course, everyone has access to the same content at the same time with lessons released each morning London time (Mo-Th) with a weekend projects released each Saturday.

You can also access the course material at your convenience and do the lessons over a longer period, with eighteen months access.
