Creative Leap Natura

Natura is an alternative drawing-focussed art course inspired by forms found in the natural world, on land and in water. There are fifteen motivational projects, designed to kickstart creativity and promote original thinking all incorporating my Creative Leap method where handwriting and letters are used as anchor points for explorative and expressive drawings.

Course Outline

The course consist of three modules: Botanica, Bestiola & Oceanum.

Each module has five projects plus one bigger concluding project that builds on the content covered.

  • Module One is linked to botanical, plant and floral forms.
  • Module Two has flying insects and mini-beasts as the main inspiration.
  • Module Three is inspired by life in the oceans with underwater creatures, fish, coral and shells adding to the topics for creative projects.

There's one year's access to the course from date of signup.

Materials

Here’s the list of materials you’ll need to get the most out of Natura.

I’ve recommended the same, high quality materials that I use in my daily art practice. Affiliate links for Jacksons in the UK are included but you’re welcome to source from wherever you get your art supplies.

  • A basic sketchbook for drawing exploration

  • A watercolour paper sketchbook, Moleskine or Hahnemuhle A4 size or similar ledger size paper.

  • At least three watercolour paper sheets around 10”x14”, 12”x16” or bigger. Arches Aquarelle and Hahnemuhle Cold Press Paper 300g come in large individual sheets and pre-stretched blocks of ten

  • A selection of black pigment ink Fine Liners (not water soluble once dry), pencils and other drawing instruments of own choice.

  • Round pointed paintbrush Size 8 or 10. Optional: other larger synthetic brushes including flat or angled, suitable for watercolour and acrylic ink.

  • Dip pen for drawing in ink. I use Speedball’s mapping set.

  • Acrylic ink, black or dark brown. I use Golden High Flow acrylic paint in black.

  • Watercolour set. This could be basic colours or a bigger selection. I use the QoR watercolour set with twelve colours.

  • Aquarelle pencil in blue, red and yellow Both Caran d’Ache and Inktense pencils work well.

  • Optional removable masking fluid (don’t get the wax-based option).

What People Are Saying:

I’ve loved every project in Creative Leap. You’ve encouraged us to observe, manipulate shapes, think about colour and texture and see endless possibilities in familiar objects. I now realise it’s good to experiment and make mistakes as negatives can so often become positives.

This course is wonderfully balanced and productive..... and exactly what I needed right now. I am especially grateful to you for reawakening my joy in drawing, plus so much else. Many ideas to pursue.
