Imaginary Butterflies

In this mini-course we'll be looking at butterflies and how to paint them incorporating techniques and processes.

What You'll Get

  • Drawing, watercolour paint techniques and colours mixing.
  • Four video lessons explaining processes.
  • A resources guide including the Coloricombo colour palette.
  • One year's access from date of signup.

Materials

Paint

I like using a professional quality paint since the pigments are more concentrated and the colours are stronger: this allows for better mark making and painting techniques. The Golden QoR set is ideal to explore options for a very wide range of colours.

Paper

For the two butterfly projects I used cold press watercolour paper size 36cmx53cm. I recommend Arches Aquarelle or Hahnemuhle paper.

Brushes

Synthetic nylon brushes are used throughout this course. Paintbrushes used Include:

  • Round pointed brush size 8 or 10
  • Flat paint brush
  • Angled brush
  • Small size fan brush
  • Comber brush

I also used a dip pen with watercolour paint for the outline.
